The Houston Astros, who won the 2017 World Series, were accused of illegal sign stealing. The Astros are said to have used electronic devices to relay pitches to their hitters. While sign stealing is not illegal in general, using aids, such as electronic devices, is strictly against the rules. The Astros received a lot of backlash from the baseball community. Unfortunately, the MLB was unable to adequately punish the Astros organization for this. The Astros were fined $5 million, lost first and second round picks in the 2020 and 2021 drafts, and had coaches fired. Aside from this, all players involved faced no punishment.
